Message from the Dean

Welcome to the School of Agriculture at the University of Ghana. The School of Agriculture was established with a mission to advance agricultural education, research, and innovation to meet the evolving needs of Ghana and beyond. Since its inception, the School has been dedicated to training skilled professionals who contribute significantly to sustainable agricultural development and food security.

The original mandate of the School was to:

  • Enhance Ghana’s capacity in agricultural sciences through quality education and research,
  • Expand and diversify the University’s academic curricula in agriculture and related fields,
  • Create opportunities for the growing number of science students interested in agriculture,
  • Provide human resources to support Ghana’s agricultural economy, research, and industrial application.

The School offers a range of unique academic programmes, including Crop Science, Animal Science, Soil Science, Agricultural Economics, and Agribusiness Management. Plans to expand the school’s offerings to include emerging fields such as Climate-Smart Agriculture and Agricultural Biotechnology are underway.

Over the years, the School of Agriculture has successfully run undergraduate programmes and expanded to offer postgraduate degrees, including Master of Science, Master of Philosophy, and PhD programmes, in support of the University’s vision “to become a World Class Research-intensive University.” The School has also excelled in research productivity, establishing well-equipped laboratories and research centers with support from the University and faculty initiatives. Our academic programmes are recognized for their strong blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application. Graduates of the School have gone on to pursue advanced studies at top institutions worldwide and contribute effectively to various sectors of the agricultural economy in Ghana and internationally.

The School of Agriculture is positioning itself as a leader in agricultural education and research. Faculty, staff, and students are committed to fostering a vibrant community dedicated to excellence, creativity, and innovation. We actively seek collaborations in teaching, research, and industry partnerships that support our mission and goals. We offer undergraduate (BSc) and graduate (MSc, MPhil, and PhD) degree programmes across diverse agricultural disciplines.

We warmly invite you to learn more about us and to visit the School of Agriculture on the beautiful University of Ghana campus at Legon.
